Introducing our new Preschool Manager: Angela Lunam

“All children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially”

This week we welcome our wonderful new preschool manager Angela Lunam. Angela is a mother of three with more than 22 years of early childhood education experience, including 12 years of preschool centre manager experience. Her aim is to provide a safe and stimulating preschool environment where children feel comfortable sharing ideas and taking risks.

Welcome! What made you choose ACG Strathallan preschool?
It was the opportunity to develop strong relationships between preschool and primary teachers. When both sectors collaborate, children’s learning, social, physical and cultural needs are met and the learning and achievements they have gained in preschool will transfer to school.

What is your educational philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create an atmosphere where children can meet their full potential. I will provide a safe environment where children are invited to share their ideas and take risks.

What makes a great childcare centre?
A great childcare centre offers a positive environment that welcomes and nurtures all children, and provides a safe educational environment to create a sense of belonging. It’s also important to develop relationships between teachers and families to support children’s learning and well-being.

What excites you about ECE?
I enjoy having the opportunity to observe children grow and develop – seeing their reactions when they discover something new brings me a lot of joy. Spending time with children allows teachers to experience first-hand their challenges and triumphs.

Tell us about yourself
I live in the local area, I am married and have 3 boys aged 15, 13, 8. I enjoy spending time with my family on the weekend. My youngest child Mason is a child with down syndrome. He brings a lot of fun to our family unit and there is never a dull day.

I am a very creative person and love cake decorating – this talent has been passed down through two generations so I am very proud to keep it going.

Why is ECE important?
We know how important the first five years are, and early childhood education builds on the learning your child is already gaining at home. With the right education and encouragement, children are more likely to be confident and curious about the world, which will help them to become engaged learners later at school.
